Global semiconductor industry leading indicator up in May

Economic research firm e-forecasting.com this morning announced that their Global Semiconductor industry leading indicator, World-SLI, rose in May.

The new indicator, comparable to the company’s global regional semiconductor industry indicators for Europe, Asia Pacific, North America and Japan, is a forward-looking composite index that forecasts six months ahead, on average, business activity for the global market for semiconductors.  All indicators, including the World-SLI, are released on a monthly basis.

Following an increase of 2.1 percent in April, the Global semiconductor leading indicator went up 2.6 percent in May to a reading of 171.5.  The index was set to average 100 in 2000.

“Although this has been a long recession worldwide, the semiconductor industry is starting to show signs that it slowly leading towards a recovery path,” commented Maria Simos, CEO of e-forecasting.com.  “This month, all four regions that make up the world semiconductor industry leading indicator went up, with Asia Pacific being the strongest performer.”
