Kochi: Electronics major Sony India on Thursday said it plans to boost its leadership status in the compact camera segment by striving to reach 45% market share in fiscal 2010-11 compared to 42% the year ago.
The compact camera segment in India is currently estimated at 1.3 million units and was expected to grow to 1.8 million units by financial year 2010-11, Takakiyo Fujita, general manager, marketing, Sony India, told mediapersons after launching 22 new cybershot cameras in the Kerala market here.
Sony is targeting to sell over 8 lakh units in 2010-11 up from 5.50 lakh units in the financial year 2009-10, he said, adding it plans an investment of Rs 500 million for an aggressive marketing strategy.
Fujita said the new cameras would cost in the range of Rs12990 to Rs29990.
On target for Kerala, he said they are expecting a sale of 25,000 units in the fiscal 2010-11.
