Indian cos create 3 lakh jobs in US

New Delhi: Indian companies have created three lakh jobs in the United States, while contributing $105 billion to the economy of that country during 2004 to 2007, commerce and industry minister Anand Sharma has said.

Releasing the study entitled ‘Contribution of the Indian industry to the US economy’ in Washington on Wednesday, Sharma said “during the period 2004-07, the Indian industry had contributed $105 billion to the US economy and created 300,000 jobs.” He was attending the annual summit of United States India Business Council, where US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, US Commerce Secretary Gary Locke and US Trade Representative Ambassador Ron Kirk were also present. The minister insisted on increasing trade and economic engagement between the two countries, saying that it was “not commensurate with the potential, which exists due to India’s far-reaching economic liberalisation”.

During his meeting with Clinton, Sharma said a “fair solution” to the Doha Round of talks is possible.
